HGV recruitment FAQ
What transport hiring managers ask us.
Straight answers about driver categories, screening, turnaround, services and recruitment fees.
Which HGV drivers can Clayton Miles recruit?
We recruit Category CE Class 1, Category C Class 2, 7.5 tonne, trunking, multidrop, shunter, ADR, HIAB, tanker and temperature-controlled drivers, subject to your requirements and candidate availability.
How are HGV driver candidates screened?
Screening is matched to the assignment. It can include identity and right-to-work evidence, the correct driving licence category, endorsements, Driver CPC status, digital tachograph card, relevant vehicle and load experience, references, availability and working preferences. We agree responsibilities and required evidence with you at the start.
Can you help with urgent or short-notice driver cover?
Yes. We can support urgent requirements where suitable compliant drivers are available. Turnaround depends on the depot location, shift, start time, licence category, rate and any specialist credentials required.
Do you recruit permanent and temporary HGV drivers?
Yes. We support permanent hires, planned temporary cover and urgent requirements. We will confirm the most suitable service after discussing the duration, working pattern and level of flexibility you need.
Do all professional HGV drivers need Driver CPC?
Professional lorry drivers generally need the correct vocational licence and Driver CPC, although exemptions can apply in limited circumstances. We establish the requirement in your brief; employers should confirm their legal position using current DVSA guidance.
Can you recruit ADR, HIAB or tanker drivers?
Yes, we can search for drivers with role-specific qualifications and relevant experience. Tell us the vehicle, load, certificate type or class, equipment and recency requirements so these can form part of the screening brief.
How quickly can you provide HGV driver candidates?
We aim to turn around suitable candidates within 24–48 hours for many requirements. Specialist assignments, difficult shifts and some locations may take longer, and we will set realistic expectations once the brief is clear.
How much does HGV driver recruitment cost?
Permanent recruitment is offered on a contingency basis with no upfront search fee. Temporary and contract rates depend on the licence category, shift, location, notice period and assignment requirements. We confirm the applicable terms before work begins.
Which areas of the UK do you cover?
We recruit nationwide and can discuss HGV requirements across London, the Midlands, North West, Yorkshire, North East, South East, South West, Wales and Scotland. Candidate availability varies by depot and shift pattern.
